Transforming Ugandan Communities Since 1998

Bega Kwa Bega ("shoulder to shoulder" in Swahili) partners with low-income communities across Uganda to address the root causes of poverty. We don't impose solutions; we co-create them with the families and villages we serve. And that is what makes our work sustainable.

BKB addresses the interrelated root causes of poverty — not as separate problems, but as a connected whole.

When families lack clean water, they face illness and lost productivity. When children are undernourished, they struggle to learn. When an education or vocation skills are out of reach, opportunities close before they open. Clean water, nutrition, education, and opportunity are deeply intertwined with poverty — links in the same chain. Break one, and the others weaken. Break several, and a family's future collapses and poverty persists into the next generation.

Restore them together, and generational change becomes possible.

A Life Changed

"Education is a ray of light in the darkness — a hope for a better life. Thank you BKB: you gave me light, you gave me life."

Richard Lukaaga's education was sponsored by BKB in 2002. Today he is a successful professional with a job as the Stores Supervisor at Crown Beverages, a BKB board member, and a co-founder of a savings group providing soft loans to low-income earners in his village. His story is why BKB invests in education: one sponsorship changes not just one life, but an entire community's future.
